Xander Calceta

a Filipino visual artist wherein he specializes in oil painting. His approach and style in painting is contemporary impressionism, a term used to describe works created by contemporary artists that share similar aesthetic qualities with those by the French Impressionists. Xander is fond of painting figures in dramatic moments, most likely figures in landscape or interior settings. He likes to paint something that can easily grasp by ordinary audience, paintings which can create possible numbers of stories behind it.

Though his main medium is oil, Xander can also be considered versatile in his techniques because he sometimes creates experimental and assemblage arts using other media such as acrylics, gels, mortars, found objects and the like.

Xander is a self taught artist. He began painting at the early age of 8 using any materials available that time to practice his arts. He developed his techniques in oil painting during his 20’s. He has read many books about oil paintings especially the art of the impressionists. He exchanged thoughts and ideas with fellow artists that he liked to imitate, one of which is Morgan Weistling whom he considered his mentor.

He has his first group show in 2007 and since then he has been participating in some of the big events and art exhibits in the Philippines. His first solo show was held in Metropolitan Museum of Manila wherein he showcased his early works of landscapes, still life, figures, portraits and other commissioned works from the past clients. His last solo show was in 2015 wherein he exhibited oil paintings of still life in contemporary arrangement and his main characters in the composition are stuff toys. He also exhibited his artworks outside the country specifically in New York and in Texas.

Xander is an active member of Arts Association of the Philippines. He was also a member of The Saturday Group of Artists. He is one of the founding members of Byaheros Group of Artists. Julmard Vicente

Currently, JUVI’s skillful brushwork in figurative art shapes various categories of expressions like movement and gesture which evoke particular emotions and psyche. His Plastic Series, Water Series, Flower Series and Butterfly Series lend such curiosities and indeed make powerful depictions of internal states. physicality and tactility of these hyper realistic works are made interesting in the play of the organic nature of flesh. Juvi is an artist who does not impose immediate meanings to his work but allows his audiences to freely interpret and digest his work and make sense of it, which in turn completes his creative acts. Though his works embraces its own sense of suggestions, intently, he wants his oeuvres to induce conversations and shape multiple meanings among its viewers.  As a practice, Juvi does not formulate on a theme or subjects; his works are driven by intuition and pure esthetic moments of things that interests him.  As he is moved by certain mundane observations, he recreates and re-imagines his visions and repertory of ideas in a very uncomplicated manner but with diligent technicality and commitment. Juvi hails from Buguias Benguet, and finished his art degree at the University of the East in Caloocan. He has been actively involved in the local art scene and has received recognitions for his work, among them the Grand Prize at Seventh Art Petron in 2007 and winning the 3rd Place in the 2011 Metrobank Art and Design Excellence.   He was recently featured in Juxtpoz Magazine and Hypbest.

Joy Rojas

Joy, a prolific artist, has been exhibiting his works since 2014. His first solo show, “Strong Material,” was presented in 2017. Joy had six solo exhibitions as well as several group exhibits in less than a decade. He wasn’t painting then, at least not publicly. But when he did, what first showed up was masterful strokes showing handsome horses in full gallop! This was probably an aftermath of his work in the Philippine Racing Commission.

“My inspiration to paint came from my sister who took up fine arts in the 1970s for two years at PWU (Philippine Women’s University),” Joy says modestly. He was the youngest of six children, the “bunso” of the family.

Jose Ferdinand M. Rojas, has worn too many hats to count. He is a lawyer, a columnist-writer, a former radio host, a lay minister, and a sportsman. He was in government service, the vice-chairman and general manager of PCSO (Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office)” from 2010 to 2016. But one thing is certain: He will always be an artist at heart.” He is a member of the Saturday Group of artists and is married to Atty. Patricia A.O. Bunye.

Joy admits to filling his notebooks from grade school to high school with drawings and sketches. He had a distinguished career as a lawyer, and art took a back seat, albeit temporarily. Away from government service, he had an outstanding stint handling huge funds for charitable purposes at the PCSO. It took time before he blossomed to be a full-time artist. From his home to his workspace, he designed the interiors, which also helped him develop the composition of his artworks.

The paintings were quickly bought by horse enthusiasts and his popularity grew. Now Joy dabbles in sculpture with interesting subjects like father and daughter for his whimsical resin and marble Unica Hija 5, the cross of Christ, saints, and heroes. Indeed his journey through adventurous and amazing landscapes has made him an artist to the core. He is now in the abstract genre, which he has so mastered it that he is now counted among the best in the field.

In some paintings, the abstraction is used as a framing device to highlight stenciled images of heroes and saints, with the passages of textures and marbling of pigments providing a visual accompaniment to the figures. These works mediate the artist’s contemplation of faith, religion, and art itself.

Janddie Castillo

He studied BFA in FEU. Janddie loves nature and he want to create a masterpiece in his own style and techiniques and to show it to the people specially to those art entusiast. His Father Nelson Castillo also known as the father of Philippine Miniature Paintings is one of Janddie’s inspiration.
